I know I mostly write about food, but I also try to be as considered about what I am eating as I am about what I put on my skin. My brilliant friend Leyla Kazim wrote an article lately called ‘Your Personal Care Products Likely Contain Toxic Chemicals’ that you might like to read if this school of study is up your alley and you want to understand more about modern cosmetics and what’s inside some of them.
I love the brand Meadows Aroma for skincare products. They spend nothing on marketing so that they can spend more on the product itself, keeping the price down for the consumer, and I’ve found the quality to be really good. I particularly like their Avocado and Jojoba Natural Cream and recently realised that they had everything I needed to make my own serum, which has made an amazing difference to my skin giving it a real boost of hydration. It’s a little oily on application but soaks in quickly. It might not be the right thing for already oily skin, but would be good for dry, normal, or combination skin.
Here’s the recipe:
Makes approx 90ml
Ingredients
1oz Jojoba Oil
1oz Rosehip Oil
1oz Evening Primrose Oil
10 drops of Vitamin E Oil
10 drops Lavender Oil
(All items from Meadows Aroma)
Method
Blend all ingredients together in a sterilised bottle.
Shake before each use.
Apply a couple of drops in the morning and evening after toning but before moisturising.
